5 septembre 2017 - La dernière édition du World Giving Index suscitera à la fois intérêt et scepticisme.
Ce sondage international est réalisé sur base annuelle, à l’initiative de la Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).
Le degré de générosité du public est apprécié au départ de trois indicateurs: assistance aux personnes étrangères, contributions financières (dons), engagement au titre de bénévole.

Les résultats de ce sondage déclaratif réalisé en 2015 avaient été commentés dans un précédent article paru sur ce site : ‘World Giving Index: édition 2015’.
Diminution réelle des dons, ou sondage peu crébible ?
La dernière édition du World Giving Index fait état d’une diminution du niveau de générosité dans un nombre considérable de pays de l’hémisphère Nord.
L’indicateur de mesure des dons (« Donated money to a charity ») place la Belgique en 42ième position.
34 % des belges indiquent avoir effectué un don au cours du dernier mois.
La crédibilité des tendances suggérées par le World Giving Index est toutefois loin d’être établie.
C'est ainsi que le pourcentage de concitoyens ayant effectué au cours du dernier mois un don au bénéfice d'une association au cours parait fortement surévalué.
D'autres sources statistiques basées cette fois sur le total des dons et legs recueillis sur l’année 2016 font état d’évolutions plus optimistes, du moins au niveau de différents pays de l'Union européenne.

World Giving Index: key findings and conclusions
The proportion of people across the world who reported donating money in 2016 – when the research for this year’s report was conducted – is the lowest seen for three years.
- Every Western country in the top 20 has a decreased score this year.
New Zealand, the United States, Australia, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Malta, Iceland, Germany and Norway have each seen a decrease in their CAF World Giving Index score of between one and five percentage points.
- Africa is the only continent to see an increase in all three giving behaviours.
Last year’s report found that giving habits in Africa had recorded a positive shift after several years of change.
- Generosity of the middle classes
With as many as 2.4 billion people set to join the world’s middle classes by 2030, it is crucial that we ensure that the groundwork is put in place to support and encourage a mass engagement in giving.
We estimate that if the world’s middle classes were to give just 0.5% of their spending – less than the average UK household gives and about the same as people in the Republic of Korea – that could amount to $319 billion in resources for civil society organisations annually in 2030."
